I would never have guessed Vivek Shraya and I would be a good match, but I’m now comfortable calling our collaboration a “career highlight.” In 2014 she asked me to make a cover and 16 full-page illustrations for her now-released book, She of the Mountains, on Arsenal Pulp Press. It's a dual-narrative novel, one part allegorical re-imagined Hindu mythology narrative heavy on spirits, gods, desire, and transformation. The other: a brown, queer, coming-of-age sexual-awakening love story. These were things I’d never even thought of illustrating, but Vivek knew there was a similarity between how I work, symbolically, and Hindu iconography. Find six selections from the book available as 18x24” prints with an approximate 1.5" margin. Printed in an open edition, signed and dated on reverse.
