This sock kit is a special collaboration between Kalea Turner-Beckman and her friend Megan Samms. Megan designed the pattern, and Kalea tech edited it; Then Kalea dyed the yarn with marigolds, using skills she learned from Megan.

Each kit contains a printed copy of the pattern and 1 skein of yarn, which is a generous amount to complete the project.

$6 of each sale (the pattern portion of the kit) will directly fund Megan's new Loom Shed, a space currently being built as a working studio, community art space, and home to a future artist in residence program in Megan's home community of Katalisksipu, Ktaqmkuk. Learn more about Megan and their Loom Shed.

About the Pattern:

Pikun, bee-goon, meaning feather. Piskaqn, bis-ga-un, meaning sock. The Mi’kmaw name of these socks, Pikun Piskaqn, arises from the interpretation of the lace pattern used which is called ‘Ridged Feather Lace’ and, obviously, the knitted items are socks! Pikun Piskaqn.

A top down sock pattern, featuring a simple lace repeat and an interesting toe finishing detail. Suitable for advanced beginner/intermediate knitters.

About the Yarn:

The fleeces selected for this particular yarn were chosen from Dorset sheep who had been cross bred with Rambouillet sheep (close cousins of the Merinos) for added softness, loft, and elasticity. With 20% added nylon, this yarn makes for outstanding, durable socks.
