This is a study for a series I've been thinking about lately. It's a sort of exploration of the relationship between physical and emotional pain.
It's gruesome, but also silly. The blood looks like sweet, jammy, b-movie cornsyrup blood. Her expression is fairly placid for her predicament, and the setting is serene.
I think especially right now, in these Covidtimes, the idea that we have to act chill and press on, even when we're in a great deal of distress, is pretty relevant. That's basically what this painting is about.
Painted on 12x16" canvas board. Canvas board is flat, and this painting fits nicely in a storebought frame especially if you take the glass out. Looks lovely in an Ikea Ribba. But you can also get it professionally framed, or just lean on on a shelf unframed.
