This is a 19-point chart showing Nashville buildings of architectural, cultural, or social importance, all of which were bulldozed or burned out of existence between 1935 and 2018. It’s here that I discovered my love for mid-century department store architecture (hello, Cain-Sloan’s downtown location) and found the most incredible synagogue (the Vine Street Temple’s central dome seems impossibly proportioned). Other buildings of note: the recently-demolished Figlio’s, the Trail West Building, and the incredible collection of buildings on Public Square that once belonged to Harris, Davis & Co. but were bulldozed in 1981. Printed in an open edition, signed and dated on reverse.
